Unique Ways to Announce Your Pregnancy
By Kim Seidel
Indeed, birth dates can be extremely important and special in a family's history, as can the date of finding out one is pregnant. Lisa Horstman of La Crosse, Wis., suspected she was pregnant with her first child in October 2002. Her husband Andrew's birthday is October 17. She had purchased a pregnancy test and woke up early on Andrew's birthday to take the test.
"After the test results indicated a positive pregnancy test, I woke my husband up and told him that his birthday present was in the bathroom on the counter," she says. "I had left the pregnancy test there for him to find. It was the best birthday present I could've given him, and he will always remember his 31st birthday!"
After more than 7 years, one miscarriage and many doses of Clomid between her first and second sons, Leanne Poellinger of La Crescent, Minn., believed she didn't need birth control. She figured wrong. On her 36th birthday, which happened to be April Fool's Day, she took a pregnancy test. "After a positive result, I spent the next several minutes on the floor in surprise and part of the afternoon at the clinic for a blood test, just to be sure," Poellinger says.
When she saw her husband that evening, she said something like, "I had an interesting April Fool's joke today. I'm pregnant." "He looked at me with a blank stare and said, 'Really?'" Poellinger says. "I replied, 'Yep, no joke.' Then I probably spent a few minutes on the floor again."
Their third son arrived that December. "He is, of course, a wonderful pleasure we can't imagine being without," Poellinger says.
