A Better Bed Rest
Tips and Advice for Surviving Pregnancy Downtime
By Sue Marquette Poremba
Preventing boredom is another challenge for women on bed rest. Many women aren't even allowed to sit up. Here are some suggestions for how to keep yourself from going too stir-crazy:
- Read. Here is your chance to get caught up on all those books you won't have time to read after the baby is born.
- Watch movies. With new online movie rental options, you can rent DVDs from your computer and have them delivered in the mail.
- Learn a language. If you feel up to it, use some quiet time to study a subject you always wanted to learn, such as another language.
- Watch a play. Kids love to put on a show.
- Girls' night. Again, if you feel up to it, invite a few girlfriends over for an evening of girl talk. Get questions about the pregnancy out of the way early, and spend the rest of the visit catching up on all the latest news.
- Date night. It's important to keep connected to your husband. See if a friend or family member will baby-sit the kids so you can spend some couple time together.
