Positive Body Image During Pregnancy
A True Story of Health and Fitness
By Michele Batz
The biggest complication for me was that during my eighth month I developed hypertension pre-eclampsia. That is why I looked like I was carrying so much weight – it caused my body to swell. My doctor informed me that during the last month he wanted me to lie down on my left side. This meant no work, no laundry – nothing! This was a shock to both my husband and me because I was so active all the time. I listened to my doctor, though, and we had a healthy 7-pound, 8-ounce baby boy.
Remember that you will have your own experience and your body will have its own unique way of responding to pregnancy. My advice is to stay joyful and focus on the outcome, but, above all, register for that water aerobics class in your neighborhood! It will make you feel wonderful and, with your doctor's OK, it will be beneficial for both you and your baby.
