Professional Moms-to-Be
The Key to Smart Maternity Dressing
By Belinda Clarke
"Both of these collections travel extremely well and can alternate between professional and casual," says McCartney.
These two collections are the first components of a new venture by babystyle called the babystyle Maternity Collection, which was created in collaboration with supermodel and mom, Cindy Crawford. Sharing her expertise on fashion and style, Crawford collaborated with babystyle's design team to create a new line of maternity clothes that's stylish, yet accessible. According to Crawford, "There are enough things to worry about when you are pregnant. What to wear should not be one of them." And with this new collection, babystyle will offer its maternity fashions for the first time in a non-Internet venue: Bloomingdale's.
"The babystyle Maternity Collection is a modern, solution-based approach to dressing that's ideal for pregnant women who don't want to spend a fortune on new clothing but who still want to look and feel stylish," says McCartney.
But don't be daunted by babystyle's celebrity status. For Moore, it was the comfort and the great colors that sold her on the clothes. This is especially true in the most important area: the stomach panel. "Most maternity clothes have big bowls of fabric for the belly, which you may or may not grow into. They require maternity shirts to cover the different material. Babystyle seems to have mastered the use of Lycra for the belly, so it allows you to grow into it, without having puckers and fabric bumps," she says. " Also, I liked that the items came in great mix-and-match colors, like gray, tan, black and white, but also in great seasonal colors too such as cranberry, brown and red."
