What Every Expectant Mom Should Know About Labor Induction

A. Your obstetrician is leaving for a European vacation a week before your due date.
B. Grandma and Grandpa want to be there for the birth, and they need to know the dates in order to schedule air travel.
C. You want to make sure that your favorite babysitter will be available to watch your older child on the day of the birth.
D. You're 39 1/2 weeks pregnant, and you just want to get it over with.
E. None of the above.
Actually, the best answer is "none of the above." Although an uncomfortable mom in the last weeks of pregnancy may feel like elective induction is a perfectly reasonable alternative to waiting, obstetrical research shows that, in most routine cases, Mother Nature is the best judge of when a baby should arrive.
