Mommy Time
Making Postpartum Fitness
a Priority
a Priority
By Michele Batz
After the baby comes and you are into a routine, it's time to take time for yourself. If one of your priorities is to get your body back in shape, you will have more energy not only for yourself but also for your new family.
Remember to start by checking with your doctor and then by working out slowly. Your body just completed making a whole new person. Listen to your body and do the following to ensure a safe workout routine.
- Get your doctor's advice and support. Make an appointment to get your general health checked out before beginning an exercise program.
- Meet with a personal trainer to discuss your fitness issues. The trainer will help you develop a fitness program that is right for you.
- Put your running shoes on and get moving, even if you just take a walk.
- Don't wait for the "perfect" time to start. There will never be a perfect time. Set a date to start. Putting it off is a great way to have nothing change.
After giving birth, many women achieve a new lifestyle. You have another person to think about and when you are in top shape, you can handle the demands of motherhood with a little more ease. Changing a body part is easy enough, but changing a lifestyle takes a bigger commitment.
Ask yourself: What's holding you back today? If you are willing to learn, you'll notice the change in your body and your attitude, and you will be so happy that you put forth the effort for you.
Remember, you are the only one who can decide when you are ready to make that change, not your husband, your boyfriend, your sister or even your friends that egg you on to lose weight and makeover whatever they feel needs to be changed about you. It is up to you and you alone to make this commitment to a new way of living. Take responsibility for yourself. It is your health and your life. It doesn't matter how old you are. It's never too late to make the change to a healthier lifestyle of fitness.
