Strolling Your Way to Fitness
Make Baby Your Exercise Partner
By Laura Cone
Mom's not the only one in the family who can benefit from exercise! The following tips are designed to help you get everyone in your family up and moving:
- Use a reward system. Talk about rewards to inspire your partner or children to exercise with you. Make sure the rewards are not related to food.
- Get help with house cleaning, fixing dinner and chores to free up time for exercise. For example, buy side dishes to go with a home-cooked main dish.
- Make exercise a fun game and avoid using the words "exercise" or "workout." Play a game of tag, go on a hike or pretend to get lost in the mall before "finding" the toy store.
- Plan vacations and weekend trips with exercise in mind. Park the car a distance from the final destination at the beach or a park.
- Stick to a schedule your family can count on and one that fits their lives. If your husband has to leave early for work, go for walks after dinner.
