Unspoken Gestures
Valentine's Day Ideas for the Mom-to-be
By I.J. Schecter
Here are the three creative additions:
1. Celebrate Life with Life
A terrific way to mark the upcoming life about to join yours is to add other forms of animation to your partner's environment. "My husband did plenty of sweet things – bending over to tie the laces on my boots when I no longer could, for example – but one of the loveliest things he did was to plant bulbs for me in our garden that fall," says Lieber. If hands-on gardening isn't your bag, you might buy a special plant for the house or donate money to have a tree planted in honor of your baby elsewhere, connecting him or her to the Earth and those who live in another place. 2. A Little Polish
Though you probably find your partner more radiant than ever, she's more than likely feeling drab and disheveled at best. This is partly because she's missing doing the little things that make her feel womanly, such as getting a manicure, styling her hair or painting her toenails. (Before you scoff, force yourself to consider how pouty you get if you have to miss your weekly game of pick-up. Now think about having to miss it for nine months.) Here's a tip: Take three different nail polish bottles from her makeup cupboard, place them on her side table and then add a little note that says, "Choose one." When she discovers the note, appear at the door ready to do some mini-painting. Want to see more?
