Valentine's Day Ideas for the Mom-to-be

"Most women would love it if their partners were to polish their toenails for them, or, if not, give them a gift certificate for a pedicure," says Carol Matthews, a Canadian mother of three. "But to do it themselves is much more romantic."

Helping your partner retain some elegance during her pregnancy isn't always as difficult as it seems. You just have to pay attention to the signals. "When my partner was having a hard time wearing pants with waistbands, she borrowed a pair of my awful-looking workout pants with a drawstring waist and fell in love," says Cristy Cardinal of Ann Arbor, Mich. "She is normally a very classy dresser, so the ugliness of the pants bothered her. I went out and bought a new pair of the same pants and appliqu袠some flowers around the bottom of the cuff to make them look prettier. She loved it."

Offering regular massages is one thing, but using professional massage aids shows you're truly committed to soothing your partner's ongoing aches and pains. "My husband bought special handheld massagers called Nukkles for my aching back," says Canadian mom Sharon Aschaiek, whose first child is due to arrive any day. "It's just one of the many sweet things he's done – and without a doubt one of the most helpful." You can take your efforts up an extra notch by using massage creams and oils, though, again, be prepared for the possibility that the lavender scent you find so wonderful may make her want to gag.

Strive to understand what she's experiencing, work hard to become attuned to her signals and respond with love and compassion and make it a sweet Valentine's Day for all three of you.
