Increased hormone levels also may cause the soles of the feet to itch, according to experts.
"I think the biggest problem I see with pregnant women who come in for foot problems is they tend to want to put on soft flexible shoes that don't offer support," Dr. Dobrowolski says.
Finally, if you are experiencing foot pain, Dr. Dobrowolski suggests alternating between hot and cold packs. Soaking your feet in a hot tub may actually increase swelling. She suggests freezing a water bottle and rolling the bottle on the arches of your feet instead of taking warm water soaks.
And, consider being pregnant a license to shoe shop. Most pregnant women need several pairs of supportive shoes that are wider or larger sizes.
