High-risk Pregnancies
Why Dads are a Crucial Part of the Support
By Teri Brown
One of the many things women worry about is the state of their home. To be at home and not able to help can be very distressing. A helping husband can go a long way in minimizing this stress.
"Dads can help out more at home so the pregnant patient can get more rest," says Dr. King. "This is especially important if there are other children at home. The fastest way that a high-risk pregnancy can become more complicated is if the patient doesn't get enough rest."
One idea is to hire a housekeeper to come in and clean as often as needed. If that's out of the question, ask to see if any of your friends or family would be willing to lend a helping hand.
Dr. King suggests the couple arrange to have family, friends, church members, neighbors, etc., come by on a daily basis just to spend some time with the mom-to-be. Another idea is to make it easy for her to listen to her favorite CDs and/or watch movies.
"Encourage her to develop a hobby that she can do while on bed rest such as cross stitch, knitting or scrapbooking," says Dr. King. "You can also have a laptop set up so that she can keep in contact with friends through e-mail."
