Capturing Your Pregnant Glow

Ever since Demi Moore's maternity photograph appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine, more women have realized they don't need to hide their beautiful growing bellies.
Many women, some clothed and others nude, have pregnancy portraits taken to remember that time in their lives.
Heather Hart of Santa Monica, Calif., the owner of A La Mode Photography, says pregnancy portraits are not just for famous people.
"I love taking pictures of mothers and babies," Hart says. "Most of my clients are just regular people. Pregnancy photography is for everybody."
Having twins gave Hart more empathy for women who feel awkward about being photographed while they are pregnant. Her son, Jax, and daughter, Yale, are both 2 years old.
"When I started, to me the belly was like a piece of art," she says. "I never thought about getting pregnant. It was about taking pictures. Then when I got pregnant, my belly was not artwork because it was a different view, looking down."
"I certainly felt sexy when I was pregnant," says Sattler, who has a 1-year-old daughter with her husband, Peter. "Most women want the sexier images of themselves because it gives them a boost. These pictures are taken and they really look beautiful."
She says nude pregnancy art may lift a woman's self-image even if they are not models.
"I had a woman who was a big woman in the respect she was overweight to begin with when she got pregnant," Sattler says. "This was her fifth child. She wanted to do the sexier ones where she was nude. I draped her in fabric. She was pretty much all covered but there were flesh areas showing. It made her feel so good about herself because she did not just feel like a big mommy. She was beautiful."
Hart has been taking pregnancy portraits and photographs for 10 years but typically photographs women wearing clothes.
"[For] a lot of my clients, the last time they had professional photography was when they were married," Hart says. "This is just like another step, a big celebration, and so they want to celebrate the birth of their child."
