Pregnancy Portraits

Capturing Your Pregnant Glow

When it comes to getting dressed or undressed for a pregnancy portrait, it's important to have options. Hart brings an entire wardrobe for her clients.

"I tell my clients to bring their sunglasses and their keys, and that's it," she says. "What I do is bring a lot of material for them and wrap them and make these beautiful dresses and skirts for them."

Hart says she encourages a lot of wardrobe changes because the belly looks different depending on the outfit.

"I cover the belly and make long flowing dresses so the material is really tight around the belly and really accents it," Hart says. "I also make the material into a skirt and then put a little sweater or cashmere scarf and so then it makes the belly stick out. I like to mix it up. Some people are a little more reserved and want the belly to be covered, and some want to have it all hanging out. It really depends on my clients and what they like."

One of her clients, Emily McGill of Los Angeles, Calif., says she loved the beautiful fabric Hart wrapped her in when they shot photographs on the beach. Although she felt shy about having her photograph taken while pregnant with her son, Ryan, McGill says Hart made her feel comfortable.

"We had waited so long for Ryan," McGill says. "We had tried for so long and I figured it was the one time I'd actually be proud of a belly."

She ordered pregnancy portraits for her bedroom and prints for a book she is saving for Ryan.

"I had a girlfriend who had done it a couple years before I did," McGill says. "It seems to be something I've noticed more and more people doing. They want to share the photographs with their children."
