Turkey Day Stress
Surviving Thanksgiving While Pregnant
By Lisa A. Goldstein
If Thanksgiving smells will make you queasy, opt to eat out instead. Nutritionally, Dr. Fink says Thanksgiving does not pose any particular risk. While a prudent diet makes sense, there are many who are afraid to gain weight. "My advice at Thanksgiving is to enjoy," Dr. Fink says. "Don't overdo it, but don't be afraid to enjoy the treats of the season. As I am fond of saying, pregnancy is not a disease. It is a normal part of life, and so within reason, live your life!"
If you're traveling, make the right preparations whether you're flying or driving. Also know that it's OK to be yourself, Dr. Fink says. Try not to put unreasonable expectations on yourself on how you should be feeling or acting, especially during the holidays when stress levels can be high. Ultimately, you know what's best for yourself at this time, so it's up to you to let everyone else know what you want. Pregnancy is the best time to get away with it!
As for Pedersen's second Thanksgiving, how did it compare to her first? She ordered the entire meal in and decided to have no family. "Instead, we had one of my girlfriends over," Pedersen says. "She brought a huge bouquet of flowers and arranged them for me and we sat and talked and listened to music and ate. At the end of the meal, the baby rolled over in my belly, stretched and fell asleep. What a fun holiday!"

Don't think people realize how stressful the holidays can be when you're pregnant, especially if you are the one who has to do everything. No one will step up in my family and take the lead this year for me. Was happy to see an article like this, though I do think the family should take over and not expect a pregnant woman to do all of the prep and entertaining.
