Sharing the Big News

Fun Ways to Announce
Your Pregnancy

E-spreading the News
If you're ready to get the word out to everyone, and fast, you can't beat the Internet. And as an added benefit, you'll get plenty of responses that you can print out and save for the baby book.

Try snapping a photo of your positive pregnancy test, an older child wearing an "I'm going to be a big brother/sister" shirt, an early ultrasound image or even your tummy, and send it around. If you want to be more elaborate, Gonzales suggests making a slideshow to e-mail to family and friends.

Involving the Holidays
When the Langs decided to share the news of their second pregnancy with the world, Halloween made it easy. "Since I had deemed the baby-to-be 'Spud,' it seemed natural to come up with the idea of an oven for a costume," says Lang. She painted a box to look like an oven and made a door to flap open to show what was "cooking" inside. "Photos of potatoes weren't showing up very well, so I tried a bun and it worked! Everyone who saw the costume figured out our news right away." Her husband went as the chef.

Christmas is another holiday that makes announcing a pregnancy easy, says Gonzales. "Try hanging your pregnancy test on the tree as an ornament or tying a big red bow around your belly," she says.

Being Funny – and a Little Outrageous
There's really no limit to how far you can go to announce a pregnancy. People have even announced it over the radio before, notes Gonzales.

For a somewhat more subdued method to share the news with a crowd, try a game of Pictionary. "Whenever it is your turn, draw baby items and keep this up until the family gets the idea," says Gonzales. "If no one puts all the clues together, draw a baby on your belly. Then, lift your shirt up and see if they get it!"
