Preparing for Baby

A Month-by-Month Primer

Seventh Month
  • You're moving into your third trimester now, and it's time to start reflecting on the big picture. Dr. Glade Curtis, author of the Your Pregnancy (Da Capo Press, 2004) book series, says this is the time to start thinking about the kind of parent you want to be. "Your life is about to change in such a wonderful way," says Dr. Curtis. "Read books, take classes, ask questions and be involved in your care. Recognize this is a miraculous time you may not get to experience many times or ever again."
  • You've just had a rounded belly before. This is the month you'll start getting awkward. Think about ways to make yourself more comfortable. Danielle Friedland, a new mom from Forest Hills, N.Y., and founder of Celebrity Baby Blog, bought a body pillow and became so attached to it that she and her husband began to refer to it as her "boyfriend."
  • Sign up for prenatal classes so you'll be completely done with them by your 36th week. Dr. Curtis says he's seen many cases where a woman has planned to take her prenatal classes in her final month, only to go into labor before they were done.
