There are very few medicines a woman cannot take safely while breastfeeding. A minute amount of most medicines appears in milk, but in such small quantities, there's no concern. Dr. Jeanne Ballard, associate professor of clinical pediatrics and OB/GYN at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, Ohio, concurs and recommends consulting Medications and Mother's Milk: A Manual of Lactational Pharmacology (Pharmasoft Medical Pub, 2004) by Thomas W. Hale, Ph.D. Dr. Ballard says that this valuable reference can be used by a mother or her physician.
