Bask in a Babymoon

A Last Hurrah Before
Becoming Parents

By Laura Cone

"It seems to be a way for them to reconnect and have a last hurrah," Collins says. "I hate to say that, but a lot of times after you have a baby you won't be going anywhere for a while. It's a way to get one last outing together to concentrate on each other before the baby comes in. It's really hard to make that time once you are parents."

Just like a honeymoon, a babymoon can be very romantic. Couples enjoy whirlpool tubs, steam showers and foot spas to soothe an expectant mom's aching feet. Collins says some expectant moms enjoy receiving a massage while they are on their babymoons. And while on their babymoon, guests stay in private cottages, and food is delivered to their rooms.

A Welcome Escape

Tammy Hopper, a mother of three from Lakeland, Fla., says she did not know what a babymoon was when she went on one to London when she was pregnant with her identical twin boys. Looking back on it now, Hopper realizes the trip to London was a peaceful, restful vacation that would give her the strength to get through a difficult pregnancy.

"With the boys, I was sick my entire pegnancy," Hopper says, who had an IV hooked up to her to keep her hydrated. "I did not feel good. I was not a happy pregnant woman. It's hard to get excited about something that is making you feel so terrible."
