From Beach Babe to Busy Mom
Actress Jaime Bergman Looks Forward to Motherhood
By Elisa Ast All
Upon learning she was pregnant, Bergman and Boreanaz hit the bookstore and bought about 10 books – some for her and some for him. She recommends Birthing from Within, by Pam England and Rob Horowitz. He recommends She's Having a Baby: And I'm Having a Breakdown, by James Douglas Barron.
In addition to books, the two are attending childbirth preparation and breastfeeding classes at the hospital where they will deliver their child. "Even though I'm taking Lamaze, I probably won't go with a natural birth," Bergman says. "I don't want to test my power just yet. My husband's sister did it and said it was beautiful, but I'm not pain tolerant. I'll probably get an epidural."
Boreanaz will serve as Bergman's coach for the birth. "He's the only one I want in the room with me," she says. "He has been completely involved in everything. I don't know how I'm going to be [in labor], so it'll be just David, with my family outside waiting."
Boreanaz couldn't be more excited to be a father. "It's surreal right now," Bergman says. "I'll walk into a room and he'll go, 'Oh, my God! We're really having a baby.' It's a blessing."
They also are preparing their home for the new arrival. "We have a room we are changing into the nursery. It won't be so cutesy; no clouds and balloons. It'll be a more weathered, rustic room. Not knowing the sex, it's hard to pick colors, but maybe a mint green."
While nothing is certain once a baby enters the world, Bergman plans to take a month of maternity leave and then return to the show. "I'll take the baby with me to work," she says. "We're given a trailer, so the baby can stay there with a nanny. On the set, there's so much down time that I can be with the family. I want to be with the baby as much as possible."
