Social Dancing

A Low-impact Exercise Secret for Moms-to-be

The Comfort Factor

The secret to low-impact social dancing is comfort. This is very important to women who are pregnant. When dancing, wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. Also select shoes that feel good. Pregnant women have a tendency to notice the swelling of their feet and ankles as they begin to gain weight. Select shoes that may be a little larger than you would normally wear with a smooth sole allowing you to move easily and not stick to the floor. Athletic shoes with a rubber sole are not a very safe choice as they may stop and start your movements on the floor.

Although on the popular dance shows currently on TV you may see many of the dancers wearing very high-heeled shoes, social dance shoes are made with any size heel that feels good to you. Select a shorter, wider heel to help you feel comfortable as you dance. You may notice that most dance shoes give you better support in your instep than a normal street shoe. Open-toed or closed-toed shoes are also a personal preference. Select something that feels easy for you to wear throughout your pregnancy.

Social dance – the best low-impact exercise secret for any woman, pregnant or not. Social dancing is a wonderful way for new moms and dads to continue exercising after the birth. It can be a welcome opportunity for couples to reconnect after becoming parents. It's a before-and-after exercise that allows a social outlet as well as shared opportunity with your spouse. What a great secret!
