A Dad's Eye View of Bringing Baby Home for the First Time

Eventually, I had to put Piglet and Pooh in the garage, but of course, we dads sometimes need to be reminded that there are other ways to make his house feel more like a home for the long-term.
"Patience is one virtue that all new parents, especially fathers, would value in practicing – patience in learning what their new infant may need and patience assisting the new mother with her role," Zoppi says. The new mother is experiencing a tumultuous drop in pregnancy hormones that may make adjustment quite challenging. The biggest support the new father can give the new mother is understanding; the biggest support the new parents can give each other is understanding that this is not as easy an adjustment as it seems. Communication is key to any relationship, and this homecoming will need plenty of listening and understanding."
I noticed that my wife, Charlotte, seemed to become very forgetful during those first few days, and it was easy to get frustrated with having to repeat things over and over. As soon as I realized that she was also frustrated with it, I backed off a little bit. If a little forgetfulness was the only side effect of sleeping in two-hour spurts while she fed our baby, then I was a lucky man. I still have to remind her of things every once in awhile (always), but she always remembers the important stuff (mostly).
