My husband and I had been trying for about three months to get pregnant. Every month, I always did a test the day my period was due if I did not have it when I woke up in the morning like I normally did, and each time, it always came out negative and I would be so disappointed. I decided that I was obsessing about it too much, and that the next month I was not even going to bother doing a test.
Well, Tuesday came (that is the day my period always started) and I did really good all day – I did not take a test. But by that evening, I couldn't stand it anymore, so I went upstairs and took one. This time, there were 1 1/2 lines – the second line was very, very faint and only about half there, so I took it to my husband and asked him how many lines he saw, and he said the same thing. I went to the store to get another test. I ended up going to Walgreen's, which I never really did, and bought one of their brand tests. When I took it, there was only one line – I figured I was not pregnant ... again!
The next day, Wednesday, I was supposed to go to work with my mom (we cleaned houses together) and I felt horrible – just dizzy and weird but she convinced me to go anyway and I was just in a bad mood all day. By the time Friday came, something told me I had to get to the store and get a test. I had the worst backache I ever had in my life. Wouldn't you know, my husband had to take my car to work because his battery was dead, and he wouldn't be home until around 11 p.m. I couldn't wait!
There was a horrible storm that day – ice, snow, sleet coming down like crazy, and yes, I walked to the store. It took me an hour and a half to get there and back (and it is not very far!) I went upstairs, dripping wet, and took the test and sat on the toilet to wait – only I didn't have to wait – within about three seconds there were two very dark, clear lines! I couldn't believe it and burst out laughing! Then I told the cat and called my best friend. I didn't want to tell my husband over the phone, and of course he ended up calling me for nothing and I was sitting there holding the positive test while on the phone with him, and I couldn't help but laugh a few times and he asked me what was up and I said something about the cat doing something funny.
My parents came over that night so my dad could fix the car, and I had to sit there through dinner with them and not tell them. I wanted my husband to know first. Then I asked them to drop me off at his work so I could get the car so I could go do something. I went to the store and bought two jars of baby food and two cards – one for my husband and one for my parents – and put each in a gift bag. Needless to say, my husband was ecstatic! Then we went in my parents' house and I handed my mom the bag. She took out the jar and said, "What do I need baby food for?" Then she finally got it. Duh!
