Maternity Clothes Solutions for Taller Moms-to-Be

Pregnancy Fashion Emergency-Solutions for Taller Moms-to-Be!Katie Favale is thrilled to be pregnant. She's also 5 feet, 10 inches tall and sports some of the coolest fashions out there. Her pregnancy fashion emergency? Lack of stylish maternity clothes fitted for tall women!

"Honestly, I never planned on investing tons of money in 'haute couture' for pregnant women, I figured I would find some hip clothes that looked similar to what I normally wear," explains Favale. "I was frustrated that so few of the pants I liked even came close to being long enough, and I didn't know where to start looking online, never having been pregnant before!"

The bigger issue I had is when I was in the "in-between" stage, during which I wore a lot of my pants unbuttoned or with a safety pin.

Though there are many unique maternity wear companies out there, finding ones that provide special fits for tall (or short!) women can be an arduous process. In response to Favale's plea, we found two companies that were happy to provide guidance.

Japanese Weekend
Barbie White, designer and president of Japanese Weekend maternity wear, recommends her Ok line as a natural for tall women.

"Ok is our exclusive waistband design that we developed in 1984 that cradles a pregnant woman's belly and offers extra support for her lower back, growing with her as her belly expands," White explains. "Ok is based on the concept of a 'new natural waist' – a waistline that is lower (scoops under the belly) and at an angle, not across the belly like many maternity clothes. This means that when tall women wear Ok pants, they don't have to worry about the front and back rise being too short on them; the Ok waistline is naturally low."
