Ever since Demi Moore's maternity photograph appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine, more women have realized they don't need to hide their beautiful growing bellies. Many women, some clothed and others nude, have pregnancy portraits taken to remember that time in their lives.
Heather Hart of Santa Monica, Calif., the owner of A La Mode Photography, says pregnancy portraits are not just for famous people. "I love taking pictures of mothers and babies," Hart says. "Most of my clients are just regular people. Pregnancy photography is for everybody."
Some like to have their portraits when they are six to seven months pregnant, while other women wait until their due date. |

Having twins gave Hart more empathy for women who feel awkward about being photographed while they are pregnant. Her son, Jax, and daughter, Yale, are both 2 years old.
"When I started, to me the belly was like a piece of art," she says. "I never thought about getting pregnant. It was about taking pictures. Then when I got pregnant, my belly was not artwork because it was a different view, looking down."
