Paola Ferguson played cards and games with her 4-year-old son, Michael, while
she was on bed rest during her pregnancy. Even though she suffers with a brain
tumor and had to stay in bed for six months of her pregnancy, Ferguson used the
time to grow closer with her family.
"We read so many books and we did a lot of coloring," Ferguson says. "I hired a nanny and I still have her to this day. The nanny would play with Michael and bring me my food."
Share at least one meal together as a family even if it has to be on the bed. |

Ferguson of Boling Brook, Ill., attributes the fact her children both weighed more than 6 pounds at birth to her physician's order for bed rest. Still, she was in the hospital 15 times during each pregnancy.
"When I did do something I lost my balance and fell in the shower," she says. "I bruised part of my belly and that could have hurt the baby. You get really moody on bed rest. I took a shower by myself and it took two hours before I could get help. Obey your doctor's orders. It's not about you. It's about the baby too."
