The only thing a woman in the last couple of weeks of pregnancy wants to hear is "everything is fine." To hear anything else is disturbing and just adds to the general discomfort of the home stretch.
Johanna Zumallen from Nixa, Mo., was in the 8th month of her pregnancy when she first heard the words "transverse lie," which refers to the way the baby lies in the womb. It isn't the way they are supposed to be lying, either!
Some statistics say that the transverse lie occurs in only one in every 2,000 births. |

"My uterus apparently is in the shape of a heart, thus allowing her to go sideways," Zumallen says. "She also was 10 pounds, 3 ounces at birth, so her sheer size made her not want to go head down. I was really nervous only because I was scared of having a C-section. They tried to turn her, but that didn't work. Within two hours she had moved right back."
The baby wouldn't budge and Zumallen ended up having a C-section that went very well, which isn't unusual for a transverse lie pregnancy.
I'm at 38 weeks, and my baby is still transverse and refusing to budge. And honestly, my doctor is pissing me off because she won't even entertain the idea of manipulating her into position before I go into labor or scheduling a c-section. I'm a first time mom, so of course she thinks she knows best, but bottom line is I'm worried about my baby. The more I read about transverse the more freaked out I'm getting, as every single thing I've read contradicts what my doctor is telling me. It's totally frustrating.
My son was tranverse lie right up to nearly 9 months of pregnancy and then he turned head down and I had a normal birth. My tips to get baby to move: go up and down the stairs, go on your hands and knees and clean skirting boards lol get the big gym balls and sit on them. Hope this helps did for me x
i am 38 weeks today and found out two days ago our little girl is in transverse position.i also have a love heart shaped uterus called a bicorniate uterus so thus prevents baby getting into right position so im told by doc.i am booked in for caeser next thurs at 39 weeks.i am very scared from now until then as i am 31 years old and this is my first.i got told a few years ago i couldnt have children so this is our miracle girl just scared and really hope everything works out.goodluck to everyone else
i am 35 weeks pregnant. my baby lies transverse.
I'm 35 weeks, and my baby has been lying transverse in my tummy since I started feeling him move... I was delivered C section, so I'm less worried about that... hoping its possible for the baby to right himself before delivery....
