Your Pregnancy in Writing

Write From the Beginning-Your Pregnancy in Writing "October 15, 1998 -- What have I done to my baby? She didn't do anything to deserve this. How could I have been so irresponsible to get pregnant again when she is still so young? No more one-on-one cuddle time. No more long talks and walks with just the two of us. Soon a needy little baby is going to upend her world. How could I have done this to her?"

The last month of my second pregnancy was a difficult one for me. I had so many thoughts and emotions running through my mind. On one hand, I was thrilled to be pregnant, and to know my new baby would be the boy I had dreamed of and wanted so badly. On the other hand, I mourned the loss of my "only child." Keeping a journal may have been the only thing that kept me sane.

Pregnancy is a time full of emotion.

Pregnancy is a time full of emotion. Many expectant moms have feelings of anxiety, fear, excitement, ecstasy, guilt and worry -- all at the same time. Will I be a good mom? Will I pick a good name? Will the baby be healthy? Will I ever enjoy sex again? Sometimes the best way to clear your mind is by writing things down.

Kathryn Bates, a mom from Yukon, Okla., had a very difficult pregnancy. After being diagnosed with cancer and told she would never have another baby, she conceived. However, at 26 weeks pregnant she went into pre-term labor and was put on bed rest. Four weeks before her due date, a sonogram showed that her baby weighed in at less than 1 ½ pounds. Through it all she kept writing. "Writing down my fears helped me to look back days -- even weeks -- later and realize, 'Hey, we've made it another day, week or month. Things are going to be okay,'" she says.
