Most moms know that smoking while pregnant is dangerous to their baby's health.
After all, it says so right on the pack. While some mothers continue to struggle
with their nicotine addiction even while pregnant, for others, the health of their
child gives them strong motivation to quit.
"As soon as I discovered that I was pregnant, I put down my cigarettes and did not smoke at all while I was pregnant," says Greta Gunselman, mother of two from Harker Heights, Texas. "I felt it was important not to smoke because I did not think that it was right to submit my child to the dangers of smoking. I felt that what I decided to do to my body was my choice, but that that little child inside me did not need to suffer for those choices either."
Smoking during or after pregnancy has been linked to one in 10 infant deaths. |

Moms like Gunselman have heard of many of the health threats smoking poses for their unborn child, but new risks are being discovered all the time.
