My name is Berlin and I am now 29 years old with a 3-month-old baby. It took me a year to recuperate from my loss of my first pregnancy.
On December 24, 2001, I found out that I was pregnant. My menses had always been regular. Somehow I missed my menses for the month of December. My husband was overjoyed, and the news spread among friends, relatives, colleagues and family.
I went to the clinic, and the doctor confirmed my pregnancy. I was 5 weeks pregnant. My family members were excited about the pregnancy, especially my mother-in-law. She had been "nagging me" over a year, persuading me to have a baby. Finally her wish came true.
Everything was all right and fine until the eve of Valentine's Day 2002. I felt crampy at my ovary and there was a slight spotting. I went to see a doctor immediately. The doctor did an ultrasound scan, and the bad news was that he was not able to see the fetus. I was 11 weeks pregnant at that point in time. I was asked to go home and rest as I would need to go for another detailed scan the next day. However, that night after my dinner, my cramping became more intense, and my husband sent me to the emergency ward. I needed to stay in the hospital for an observation.
