Like too many teenagers, I became pregnant at 18 years old. Here I was, unmarried, working part time and finishing school and pregnant! I was horrified!
The horror soon turned to the greatest love in a mother's world with the birth of my son, Michael. He was perfect (at least in my eyes). The pregnancy was easy and after all the labor tales that I had been told – most of them were embellished, to say the least – Michael was born after only two hours of labor. His father was not an active part of his life.
I am happy to say that two years after Michael's birth I met the man I will spend the rest of my life with. He fell in love with me and my child (sometimes I think he loves the child more, which is OK with me). We were married two years later. Almost a year after we were married I found out that we were pregnant. We were all thrilled. On the day we had our ultrasound we were astonished to hear that we were expecting twins!
At 22 weeks into the pregnancy, however, I went into premature labor. My beautiful boys, Carlin and Gavin, were too small to survive. Our family was devastated.
