We're all guilty of it – grabbing a few chocolate chips out of the cupboard when
no one is looking. Going through the fridge just before bedtime. Tossing in a
bag of M&Ms after we finish grocery shopping to eat on the way home. Snacking.
Whether you're a salty snacker, a sweet snacker, a night snacker or an afternoon snacker, we all agree on one thing: Snacking is a hard habit to break!
For low-calorie items, try light popcorn, baby carrots and black bean dip, or flavored mini rice cakes. |

Is it a habit we need to break, though? That depends. Leslie Fink, Content Nutritionist for WeightWatchers, believes that despite what some people think, snacking is a good thing, although some snacks are obviously much healthier than others.
"Nobody expects us to eat lunch at noon and wait all the way to 7 p.m. to eat again," Fink says. "Go to a restaurant without eating for that long and you need ironclad willpower to fight off the breadbasket. Or if you're waiting for dinner to finish cooking at home, good luck keeping your hands out of all the goodies in your kitchen cabinets."
