Here we were late for church – again. My husband was getting dressed when I got the brilliant idea. I would go and start the car to get it all warm and cozy for the drive.
At the time we were living in a four-plex and there were stairs down to the sidewalk and parking lot where the car was. It was in the middle of December and Rexburg, Idaho, is known to have a lot of ice and our manager wasn't all that great in getting it cleared out of the way.
So off I go out the door. Slowly I waddled to the stairs and made it without slipping. Phew, I thought, as I held the railing. I looked down the stairs and gave myself a pep talk yeah, I can do this.
I started down the stairs. One ... two ... three ... and as I stepped on the fourth stair my foot slipped beneath me and ... BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! There I was on the bottom of the staircase with my dress all the way up to my chin and my 7-month pregnant belly sticking out for all to see.
As I assessed the situation I looked up to see my knight in shining armor coming to get me with his black socks and nothing else on but his nice little white undies. He pulled me up from my aching back and we slowly walked back up the stairs into our apartment. I have to admit we gave quite a show to our neighbors that day.
