The first sign of my deterioration was at a breakfast held for my husband's 36th birthday. While walking to the restaurant, something on my shoe kept catching my eye. I thought I'd better check it out, as I could have stepped in something (of the doggy kind) and it wouldn't do to walk into the restaurant with muck on my shoe.

My eyes traveled to my feet, and to my surprise I saw I was wearing my black sandal on my left foot. Weird, as I could have sworn that I'd put my tan shoes on. Then a terrible thought struck: What if I was wearing my tan shoes, but only one – and on my right foot a different shoe? To my horror, I saw I was wearing odd shoes. I started a new trend that day and have never lived it down!
