I was 8 months pregnant and decided to take one last trip in the transport with my husband like we did all the time before we had children. I should have known it wouldn't be a good idea but a pregnant woman's mind has never been accused of being smart.
The trip wasn't supposed to be that bad. We were only going to Newfoundland. This involved driving for 10 hours and then waiting for the ferry. We got to the ferry and ended up having to wait in the parking lot overnight for the next ferry.
At some point in the night I decided it would be a good time to get the flu. So for half the night I was lying in the bunk with my head stuck out the bunk door bringing everything I could up.
That wasn't the worst of it. At least at night there is no one else around, but the flu doesn't seem to know that because it didn't get any better with daylight. By 8 a.m. I decided I should get out and walk around in the fresh air for a while. Needless to say, about five minutes out of the truck the feeling came over me again and I did the best I could. This, however, involved me bending over between our truck and someone else's, holding a tire from each truck and bringing everything I'd eaten for 10 years right there in the parking lot with six other drivers around to witness it.
The next thing I know I hear another driver saying, "You haven't even got her on the boat yet and she's woofing her cookies." It was a very long trip (six hours on the boat over, a night in Newfoundland and another six hours back on rough seas). I never want to see Newfoundland again and I have never lived the story down and our son is 16 months old now.
