Zara was a surprise. The first inkling I had that I was pregnant was when my period was late. I am a very regular 28-dayer, and so I knew immediately something was amiss.
I did the test and to my surprise, two blue lines appeared. My initial reaction was, "Oh my god!" But the gut feeling was that I wanted my baby.
I had to wait until the evening to tell my fiance the news. He's in the military; therefore, we are rarely together. He was totally floored by the news and apparently told his friend he had snags [sic]. However, as the pregnancy progressed, he became more and more excited. He cried at the 20-week scan when he saw the faint outline of our little girl.
Unfortunately, when I was 5 months along, he had to go away for three and a half months. I think reality only really hit when he arrived home to see me 8 1/2 months pregnant and the size of a bus!
He adores Zara and would do anything for her, although he has not seen her since she was 2 1/2 months old (she's now 6 months). He is the best father, and I can't wait to see his face when he returns to see how much our daughter has grown and developed. He doesn't believe me when I tell him she is now trying to feed herself.
