We were married for about seven months and I was on the pill. Sometimes my menstruation would be late for a few days because of stress, so I was never worried because I was on the pill.
We went to a friend's birthday party one night and I had a few drinks. The next few days I was sick and throwing up. I thought that I had too much to drink. The sickness went on for about a week so I went to the doctor fearing that I had alcohol poisoning. He checked me out and came back in the room and asked me had I ever been pregnant. I said no. He said, "Well you are now." I said, "Are you serious?" He said, "As a heart attack."
I called my husband in the room so the doctor could tell him and he was totally shocked. He wouldn't talk to me for a few days. That was the most stressful time in my life. It made me feel like I was alone. Even though the baby was a "surprise," I felt that I should've received more emotional support than he gave. He wasn't the one affected by the news. A few months down the line, his attitude changed completely and he can't imagine life without our 2-year-old daughter.
