My story began as usual. Months of trying to conceive, followed by months of worry after conception. My worry was legitimate considering I was having colored discharge right from the beginning. I suspected some sort of infection, but was met with the usual comment that all was proceeding normally and not to worry.
By my 25th-week appointment, I had gained a mere 2 pounds and was experiencing severe back and leg pain. My doctor made a comment during the appointment that if I had the baby now, it would have a chance at surviving. Well, little did he know that exactly seven days later, my water would break. I was only 26 weeks and not showing at all!
Our beautiful little Madyson came into the world at 1 pound, 14 ounces, and 13 inches long. Her little head was only 9 centimeters. This little one amazed everyone by going from ventilator to cpap in 24 hours. She was on the ventilator for a short time after because she was so small and tired easily, but was onto nasal canula at 2 weeks. She looked just like a little bird. We put my husband's wedding band all the way up to her shoulder. She was just so skinny. But this little miracle completed her three-month hospital stint without any undo problems and was a favorite in the nursery. She came home at 4 pounds even and flourished.
Just one week ago we celebrated her 4th birthday and say to all who go through this same experience, God bless and hang in there!
