"Although I had a really healthy, easy-peasy pregnancy, I had some wicked heartburn in my third trimester," says Anne Marie Carver, a mom from Arlington, Va. Her now 3-year-old daughter, Phoebe, also turned breech, but was born healthy.
Heartburn is among the common symptoms during the third trimester – 26 to 36 weeks – of pregnancy, says Noni Martin, a registered nurse and Lamaze educator at The Family Medicine Center, Glendale, Calif. "The crowding in the belly from the growing baby, along with the pregnancy hormone progesterone relaxing the muscle at the top of the stomach, makes pregnant women more prone to heartburn," she says. "Our progesterone is there to keep the womb relaxed until Baby is ready."
Warm baths, cat stretches and some yoga positions relieve pelvic pressure, sciatica and back pain. |

In the meantime, pregnant women can eat small, frequent meals, avoid a reclined position right after eating and skip foods that you find cause heartburn for you, Martin says.
Some common symptoms pregnant women experience in the first and second trimesters may continue or become more pronounced. These include fatigue, insomnia, frequent urination, lower back pain and swollen ankles and feet.
