Andrea's Diary Entries

Introduction

So here's what happened in a BIG nutshell. 30 June at 10 AM my water broke while I was home alone. I had been having contractions since Monday. I started feeling pain other than contractions and it was VERY intense and painful. BF and DH on the way but thought I would not make it the pain was so bad. Called support from message board Julia and talked as long as I could. DH got home with DS and we took off. BF to meet us at hospital.
Got to hospital ~12 noon and tried to explain pain to non listening ears and cried from pain. Monitors showed decrease in BG's hb and then it disappeared. Rushed into OR for emergency c-section. Difficult because previous c-section and other abdominal surgeries caused uterus to fuse to abdominal wall (it pulled when I had contractions)They were cutting blind and had to call in a specialist. By then we also had placental abruption and were bleeding out. By the time Annalisa was born, she had a low hb, wasn't breathing, no muscle tone or reflexes. They intubated her, gave an epistick, chest compressions, IV, blood transfusion and shipped her off to the NICU.
I was still in the OR bleeding out and with them trying to stop the bleeding and piece be back together. They kicked out DH because they weren't sure how it would go. They were trying to avoid a historectomy. I lost 2 liters of blood but ended up without a historectomy.
We were both doing fine and were released on July 4th. A few hours later I was back in the hospital with a raging fever. I had two anaerobic bacteria from the sugery. I was readmitted and treated with a triple cocktail of antibiotics for ~ 1 week, released again with OTC antibiotics. I went back to the hospital a week later complaining of severe pain in my right side front to back. I was sent home, they said it was related to the sugery. I went back later that evening with a raging fever again.
Still had the bacterial infection and so the did a CT scan and found a huge blood clot. I was readmitted and put on triple cocktail Ab again and heparin. The clot moved from the Uterine artery to the inferior vena cava. Great location for those of you who know what that is and where it leads to. So then after over a week being treated I was sent home with an IV midline in for an Ab push, Fragmin injections twice a day for blood thinners, 12 Ab pills a day and pain pills. Now I am off the injections and switched to coumadin for the next 6 months. Breast feeding is out and getting better and stronger is something of a task with a newborn and toddler. I hope no one else ever has to go thru this. It sucked royally and to top it all off, I was advised that to try another pregnancy/delivery could very well be hazardous to my and the child's life. SO, with a girl and boy (I lucked out) I am done carrying any more children. All that is left is figuring out the birth control. I am all done getting cut! ;-)
