Happy October, everyone!
This weeks has been good. We went to the doctor last Friday and we got to hear the baby's heartbeat. I think my doctor was disappointed in our reaction. When he found the heartbeat he said, "That's the heartbeat." Greg and I looked at each other and smiled. Then the doctor said again, "That is your baby's heartbeat." He looked at me like he thought I didn't understand. To let him know that I knew what he was saying, I asked how fast the heartbeat was. I think he expected us to cry or show a little more emotion. We were excited, but it was hard for me to jump up and down when I was on the table with the gel all over my stomach. I was very thankful we found the heartbeat. It helped confirm that nothing is wrong this time. The heartbeat was 150bpm, which everyone tells me means it's a boy.
I do have a question for anyone out there that has had to use progesterone suppositories during pregnancy. My doctor told me I could stop using them since I'm far enough along and the heartbeat sounded OK. I did some reading and I have found conflicting information. Some doctors say to stay on the progesterone until you reach 8-10 weeks and other doctors say to continue the progesterone for up to 16 weeks. Does anyone know anything about this? When does the placenta take over producing the progesterone? Every time I have a cramp or a pain I think something is wrong. And my morning sickness seems to be improving. I know that's normal at this point, but I'm also worried that it means something is wrong and that I should have stayed on the progesterone. Help!
Since the appointment went so well, we decided it was time to tell my family. Greg's family had already heard our news about a month ago. They don't seem to get too excited about these things. I knew my family would be thrilled. On Saturday we were celebrating my mom's birthday and my brother-in-law's birthday. I gave them gifts and cards. I included separate cards to each of them from Brendan. In each of the cards I enclosed an ultrasound picture and signed the card from Brendan and Baby #2. My mom and my sister cried, but they told me they already suspected. They had known I was on the fertility drugs and I hadn't mentioned them in a while. My mom has already volunteered to stay with us for a week after the baby is born to help out with Brendan. She stayed with us when Brendan was born, too, and she is such a great help. My mom is the best!
That's about it. I'm still trying to find maternity clothes that I like. I better find something soon because I'm growing out of everything! It's unbelievable. I didn't need maternity clothes until I was five months along with Brendan. But the nurse that weighed me on Friday said that I haven't gained any weight yet. Weird.
