16 1/2 weeks
Today I had my 4 month OB appt. and it only took 15 minutes! That is a big improvement over my last appt., when I was there for 2 hours to see the doctor for 5. He checked the heartbeat, which he found easily and measured good at 150, and measured my belly for the first time. He said it measured perfectly for how far along I am, so that put my mind at ease that I haven’t gained much weight yet.
I am just barely showing--you can tell if I am wearing a dress, but not if I’m wearing pants. And even then, if you didn’t know I was pregnant, it just looks like I have a pudgy (but round!) stomach. I can tell, especially when I look down in the shower and see a perfectly round belly from the top.
I am feeling great now and must really be into the second trimester. I am starting to be hungrier and will eat a lot more things even if they don’t taste as good as I like. A 2-hour “feeding schedule” really helps me though, because I still can’t eat a lot at one time. I often feel like I’m going through all the eating habits a baby/toddler will need: frequent feedings, meat cut up into little pieces, keeping stomach straight while eating to avoid gas, etc.
We’ve enjoyed staying home this August. People are coming to visit us, which is a switch from the first half of the summer when we were gone almost every weekend visiting family. My Grandma came last week, all the way from western North Dakota. She did have a few places to stop along the way, so she didn’t drive the 12 hours in one day. She bought us a rocking chair (actually a glider) for nursing and rocking the baby. It was her baby gift to us because when she had her kids, she didn’t have a rocking chair. She had to sit in a straight-backed chair and rock the baby in her arms and her back got sooo tired. So she is going to make sure that all her granddaughters have rocking chairs. We ended up getting a glider that my husband almost wouldn’t get out of in the store—he would have slept there all night. We went shopping after having a big meal at Ground Round so we were all tired. The chair comes on Thursday; we’ll see who sits in it most.
My sister is coming this weekend to help us paint the baby’s room. I almost have the room cleaned out, except for the closet, which I don’t think I’ll paint on the inside. Then next Monday I’m going shopping with my mom for maternity clothes in the Twin Cities. I don’t really need them yet, but I want the chance to shop in a large city as we don’t have as many options here.
