Becky's Diary Entries

Diary Navigation:

September 30, 2003

I was going to title this entry “22 weeks and still not showing” but that was last week when I thought I would have time to write it. This week, I am happy to say, I am actually showing. I still don’t look like a pregnant woman to anyone who doesn’t know me, but to people who do they can finally see a rounding belly. Maternity clothes are actually now more comfortable than my old clothes, and I can wear some of them without having to fold over the pouch. I haven’t gained much weight yet but the doctor says that’s fine as long as the baby is growing. Which it is. It moves all the time and I can tell it’s getting bigger.

We are trying to get the baby’s room ready, but have been delayed by carpet installers. We bought carpet at an outlet place, which means they did have a great price. But they don’t have their own installers, just independent contractors that they recommend. I called five of them. Only one ever called back. The one who did has lost my phone number and address and forgotten my name about 4 times. (If he didn’t have caller ID on his cell phone, he wouldn’t have even called me back.) I was about to hire someone else when he called me at work today and said he would be coming to install the carpet tomorrow like he had promised. Amazing. I just hope he can install carpet better than he can run a business. He seems too lazy to even send us a bill. (He claims he hasn’t gotten paid too many times when he does that.) I will probably regret hiring him, but we bought the carpet a month ago and I just want it done so the furniture for the baby’s room can be moved there instead of sitting in the living room.

I have been busy at work with deadlines—we have a whole 1/2 year worth of books due October 6. Most will make it, a few will be late but not grievously so. I am so glad my pregnancy worked out to be in the second trimester during our “crunch time”. Otherwise, I don’t think I would make it. It will also work out that I will go on maternity leave before our next crunch time (happens 2x a year). So without even planning it, the baby has fit into my work schedule. Probably nothing will be this easy to schedule again.
