My dad and stepmom visited a couple weeks ago. My dad helped me get a bunch of projects done around the house, which was great. My stepmom was sick so she stayed in the motorhome at the campground most of the time. She had my dad bring over a baby outfit from the last place they went on vacation (Kentucky Lake). The shirt said “I’m too sexy for my diaper.” Now, I suppose some people might find this funny. But I just think that this is so WRONG! I mean, to even think about a baby as any sort of sexual object, or to even apply something about sexiness to a little baby, it’s just so wrong. I would never buy that outfit for my baby, and you can bet my baby will NEVER be seen wearing it even if my stepmom comes to visit. I suppose technically I should still send a thank you note for it. Of course, I didn’t tell my dad or stepmom that I hated the outfit. But a gift like this just proves that my stepmom does not know me very well at all.
27 weeks!
I am officially in the third trimester now. I actually do look pregnant now, and seem to have gained a few pounds finally. I am tired quite a bit now, even if I do get enough sleep. Today I tried to stand up for 20 minutes and talk at a meeting today, and barely made it through. My belly is itchy because of my skin stretching, but still no stretch marks yet. I’m also eating a lot more, and can finally eat some of my favorite foods like garlic bread, which I haven’t been able to eat since before my pregnancy. The baby definitely lets me know when I haven’t eaten enough—it will kick until it gets some food! This happens a lot in the morning when I wake up but take a few minutes to roll out of bed, and also mid-morning if I don’t get enough snacks. Also, I am back to a metabolism of being able to eat as much candy as I want without gaining any weight (which I haven’t had since my first year of marriage.) It’s like sugar calories don’t count somehow. And they definitely don’t count for the baby. It kicks and kicks until I eat “real” food. Not that I am trying to eat a lot of junk, but everyone is bringing candy to work for Halloween and I’m hungry all the time.
My dogs are getting sadly neglected as I am really tired all the time, and my husband is busy with play rehearsals all the time. I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned that he is playing Linus in the musical “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.” He is having fun with it but I’ll be glad when he’s done with the nightly 3-hour rehearsals—I miss him. So I’m trying to give the dogs more attention, but they’ll probably get less attention again when the baby’s born, so I don’t want to get them too spoiled.
Now I’m trying to get some large projects at work done by the time my maternity leave starts. Normally the projects wouldn’t be due until March, but I need to get them done by Jan. 30 so no one else has to take them over. Not that I wouldn’t turn them over, they’re just really complex and we’re a little understaffed, so I would feel bad making someone do my work. So other people working on the project have to fit a 5-month schedule into a 3-month schedule too. I am looking forward to having 2 months off of work though, and just concentrating on my family instead of thinking about work all the time.
We chose a doula finally. We interviewed two of them, and they were both great so it was hard to decide. I chose the one I thought I could relate to better. Now I have to do a lot of research about what I want for birth options. I am not opposed to pain medication, but want to avoid as many interventions as possible, and don’t want to go on Pitocin—I hope the baby will just come naturally.
Only 3 months from today! (Unless baby comes late, which is likely :)
