Bridgett's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
January 3, 2003
24wks 2days
On the baby front, I had my 24 wk appt last night and all is well. I had to have another internal to check my cervix, which kind of freaks me out. I expressed to the m/w that was filling in for my regular one, the concerns I had with them messing with things.
She assured me she would be very easy, but that she really needed to check and make sure my cervix hadn't changed any from the last time, and that my m/w had left a note for it to be done again this time.
I know Judy had told me she would check it again at my 28 wk appt, but I was not expecting the m/w to check it this time.
After all, when they want you to start dialating they mess with your cervix, and from past experience, they usually don't like to do internals until you are about due.
I guess they are really worried about my cervix not holding up again.
The m/w asked me how I had been feeling and how the babies movement was. She then asked if I had been having any cramping or contractions. I told her yes, I had to admit that I have been having, for the past couple of weeks, some pretty good menstral cramping along with tightness in my belly. Something I don't ever remember having with my other children. I know, and she reminded me, that with each subsequent pregnancy you have more and more bh's. I told her I do have just tightness in my belly at times, in fact, I had had quite a few that morning sitting at work, and I just passed them off as bh's. But, the menstral cramping was totally different. She kind of got on me about those, she said I should have called them and at least let them know. She also told me that when I have those that I need to get off my feet and lay down, and make sure I drink lots of water while laying there. She said that the menstral cramping is what seems to be the harmful contractions, that cause changing in the cervix. I was also reminded that if I have 6 of either within an hr that I need to come to l&d.
Other than that discussion everything else was pretty routine, the urine check, bp, and weight, I had gained 3 1/2 lbs this time. I haven't changed anything in my eating, in fact, maybe even eating less, and last time I didn't even gain a whole lb. I guess it doesn't matter, what will be will be, she wasn't concerned about it.
I was also reminded that I get to do the GTT and have my iron checked at my next appt.
Hopefully I won't have any problems with the sugar. In fact I don't see how I could, since I just had a pretty good low blood sugar spell this past week. It had been quite a while since I had felt that way, but in a way it is kind of reassuring for now anyway, that I at least haven't gotten GD yet, like with my other boys.
On the family front:
We made it to Ohio and back safely. It was a fairly quick trip, but it was really nice getting to share a little bit of holiday spirit with family. Something I was really lacking this year with the way things were with they kids.
We made it there about 1:30 am Saturday. We didn't get to bed for a while after that, then had to get up about 8 to open the presents before my mom had to go to her teams tournament game. The kids did't want to get out of bed, and we sure didn't either, but as soon as they were reminded they got to open their presents it didn't take long for them to roll out of bed.
We were able to relax for a couple of hrs then we had to get ready to go to my dads side of the family gift exchange. It was really nice getting to see everyone. We hadn't seen any of them since moving in July, the little ones sure had grown. Everyone was suprised to see my belly. They all knew I was pg, but couldn't imagine how pg I would look. Several people said they had forgotten just how big I get, and wasn't expecting me to be this big with only being 5 mo.
On Sunday we went to Jimmy's sisters house that was about 1 1/2 hrs away, and visited with them for most of the day.
That evening we went back to my moms and she had fixed us a traditional Christmas dinner since we didn't have one yet. We were really glad she had, both Jimmy and I were kind of disappointed they didn't have anything resembling one at my family get together.
I have to say, the 10 hr drive up and back wasn't as hard on me as it was for Thanksgiving. I think it may of had to do with the fact that I sat on one of my pillows this time, and it must of really helped.
I ended up taking Monday and Tuesday off as sick days so I could rest up from the trip and try to fight off the cold I was getting.
Jimmy had to work Tuesday, but with me being home it gave the children time to play with their new things they got from Christmas.
As for New Years, Jimmy and I both were off and it was a beautiful day to start out. I think the temp was about 70. It was short sleeve and no coat weather Tuesday and Wednesday both. Even cold blooded me was out Tuesday with short sleeves and no coat, now that is saying something. I'am not and never have been one of those hot pg people, I still freeze all the time. I guess it is because of my low bp and poor circulation.
Anyway, New Years eve ended in much rain, but down her fire works are the big thing, so Jimmy had to buy some, and like a fool, kept running out in the rain to set them off.
The kids really enjoyed themselves though, playing in the rain and watching them. I think this is the first time they have ever been awake when the ball has dropped.
Well, I know I have rambled on for too long, so I will close this for now.
Oh, we still haven't discussed much a name for this little guy yet. That was something almost everyone up in Ohio asked us though.
Jimmy is in Hawaii on business again, so maybe when he gets back we can get serious about names. After all, I thought that was one of the reasons we found out, so we could refer to him by name, instead of just baby or baby boy.
Hope you all had a Happy New year and have gotten a good start for 2003. Happy resolutions if you are one that makes them!
God bless,
Bridgett and baby boy
