Cara's Diary EntriesDiary Navigation: |
July 11, 2003
Obviously, I am trying to catch up on all of my entries, so please, bear with me!
I had my first OB appointment Wednesday, July 9th, and all went well! I am (well I was then) 8w4d pregnant, and I was really surprised to be able to hear a quick little heartbeat already! I also hit the CNM up, telling her that Tommy had never seen an ultrasound, and did she have a minute to take a look for me? And sometimes it doesn't hurt to ask, because she obliged! We saw only one (whew!) little bean in there with a quick, steady heartbeat. Tommy had a huge smile on his face - it was really great. She said that I feel as though I am more along the lines of 9.5 or 10 weeks preg, but that that is to be expected with a third pregnancy and not to worry. She flipped through my chart and said "So, you have quick labors, huh?" I had Liah in 5.5 hours and Dylan in only about 4 hours from starting the Pitocin drip to delivery. I told her they were both induced, but yes, quick. I was thrilled to hear that if all systems are go, they will also induce this baby for me, as soon as 38.5 weeks. I love it, it allows for planning with Liah and Dylan for when I go into labor.
The appointment was good for me... this pregnancy had come as a surprise, and I needed a little jump-start to show me that this is indeed a good thing. I hope that doesn't sound bad, but I'll try to be honest in my writing.
I had previously mentioned that I hoped the sick gods would stay at bay, but they apparently didn't listen! I spent a couple of truly miserable weeks there where I pretty much stayed in bed all the livelong day. Misery. I really truly hate morning sickness. I felt terrible - I didn't take the kids anywhere; didn't do much of anything. They watched a lot of movies. The Dr. at first prescribed Phenergan, which just made the room spin and knocked me on my butt. Since then, I've been taking Zofran (it's actually used in chemo patients to combat nausea - Lisa O., you don't know it, but thank you!) and it has helped a good bit. My only complaint right now is being acutely exhausted by four in the afternoon; stick a fork in me, I'm done!
I have finally started full-time at the day-care, and God, what a job that is! I always said that I would never do child care, but the money just wasn't forthcoming in other jobs in the area to cover childcare for Liah and Dylan, much less a third! They are being kind enough to allow Liah to go to their pre-k program free for the year (Pre-K is not free in TN like it was in GA!) and are only charging half-price for Dylan, so things are working out.
I am thinking lots of pink vibes (can you tell I'm ready for a girl again?) although I'll of course love this baby either way, and I'm sure won't be able to imagine it any other way once he or she comes.
More to come!
Cara
