I haven't updated in a while, but I've had the ultrasound scheduled for a while and wanted to wait and update after we found out the sex! Read on...
I have of course had the pink girl vibes right from the start. My mom predicted the sex of both Liah and Dylan practically before there were two lines on the pregnancy test. She's the kind that buys pink or blue clothes for baby showers of mommies who have absolutely no intention of determining gender. And she's always been right. Tommy's daddy has been asking if we were gonna have him another grandson. We talked to Tommy's parents last week, and his daddy then mentioned that if we had a boy he has the name all picked out. So, I'm sitting here going "Oh, God, how will I get out of this one?" It turns out he votes for the name John Thomas (his grandfather's name) if we had a boy. Whew! That's not so bad at all. Although I swore that we would NOT call him J.T. Just didn't like it. John is my grandfather's name, my dad's name, and my brother's name. And Thomas, that is my husband's name and his father's name. So it fits well. And we chose Kyla Paige for a girl. I like Kyla, I think it has the same *flavor* as Liah. It just plain sounds pretty.
So today was the day of the ultrasound. You would think that after three babies, I would gain more patience and would learn how to wait a little better! Not! I didn't sleep a wink last night with the anticipation. We woke up this morning and took the kids to day care. Liah kept asking why Tommy was riding to work with me. Then she wanted to know why we were leaving her and Dylan "all alone" at day care. (Ha! Alone? Because I didn't stay to work today... she's such a trip). Then she was worried that the baby inside my belly was sick. It is so funny what goes through their minds at four years old. When we got to the day care, I was one of SIX people to be absent today. SIX! We only have eleven employees! But, I had a sub that had been lined up since my last visit, so I was safe... But I'm getting off track here. We stopped at Wal Mart on the way to the Dr.'s office to buy a videotape for the ultrasound, and we were on our way. I had to drink 32 oz. of water this morning and I am a small person with a small bladder. I knew from previous experience not to drink it too soon, but my eyeballs were still swimming by the time I was called back. Luckily, they were only about 20 minutes behind. We went on back to the room, and I had barely laid down on the table before the goopy gel was being squirted on me. It was already on my belly as the sonographer warned "This is warm!" I told her it was a good thing, or else I'd have peed all over her table. As soon as she put the magic wand to my belly, the baby popped up in the image waving at us. Already a Kodak moment. The legs were crossed and we moved on to check other fetal growth. The head size and femur length showed a gestation of 17w1d. We saw a strong, steady heartbeat of 149 bpm. The heart looked good; the baby needs to be a bit bigger to get a good picture of the kidneys. The spine is nice and straight and closed, and everything just checked out great. How blessed I am to have had three healthy babies in as many pregnancies. Then on to the baby's rump! After a few more rolls and jiggles, the baby turned, spread its legs to the world... and showed a very distinct little penis! So, John Thomas it is! We will call him Jay. I have just been on a euphoric high all day long. Tommy is thrilled, his parents are tickled, and my parents are thrilled.
Afterward, I went to another office for my regular monthly visit. I weighed in at 119, my b/p was 114/70, no protein in the urine, and everything checked out fine. She said because the dates shown by the ultrasound were within a week of the dates we'd determined by my lmp, and since I was sure of my dates, that my edd would remain the same. So, it has been a great day and life is good!
And I think I'll take this nice, smiling, positive entry and leave it at that!
Hope everyone had a great week, and hope to talk to you soon!
Cara
