Time is marching on!!!
I want to give the quick disclaimer that I had originally requested a Mom's Today diary, because I wanted to talk about all of my kids in addition to this pregnancy... but, Mom's Today was full. So, I hope no one minds if I use this space to chronicle some of what goes on with my kids here.
Once again let me say how quickly this pregnancy is going! It is unbelievable to me that I am almost at the halfway point. I mean, after all, didn't I just give birth to Liah, oh, I don't know... like last week or so?
This past week has been relatively looong though. Dylan has become a real fuss pot, and we just don't have a clue what to do for him. He just whines and whines and whines. Get the drift? It really does get old. I can't really tell, but maybe he is cutting the last of his molars??? He also will not allow me to give him medicine. I try, Lord knows, but I end up wearing more bubble-gum flavored Tylenol than he ends up taking, in spite of all the tricks in the book. So the other day, I did a real treat for him, and gave him a Tylenol suppository. I don't know if he was teething and the Tylenol helped him feel better, or if he just decided that he didn't want anything else stuck up his butt, but the whining ceased for a while! Dylan is such a nut. This boy has a fetish for horses. I have no idea where it came from, but he LOVES them. He has horsey figurines and horsey movies and horsey clothes. On the playground at school, there is one cast iron spring horse, and he guards it with his life. It is really funny. For Christmas, my parents have already gotten him a Hedstrom spring horse. He will be in horse heaven. And it's funny how we came to call a horse a horsey rather than a horse. Well, he pronounces it hor-hee. So, you see, at first when he saw a horse, it was "Mommy! A whore! Look a whore!" I could have died. We go to Hooters to eat from time to time - I really like the buffalo shrimp! Anyway, he brought one of his horsey toys to Hooters last time we went. A waitress walks by - he sees her coming and drops the horse directly in front of her, going "Uh-oh!" She stops right by his high chair, bends down to pick it up, and what does my enterprising little boy do? He leans WAAAAY over so he can get a good look at the goods as she is bent over. (yeah, "uh-oh"... whatever!) My husband about died laughing; he was just so proud, lol!
And Liah, she is just getting smarter and smarter every day. And I was not at all prepared for how much harder the questions get as she gets older. She is quite disappointed (at least at this point) that the baby is a boy. She said "But I have never had a girl baby before!" I know, baby, I know... She wants to know why the baby is a boy, and I am trying to explain to her that God decides what the baby will be, and He chose for the baby to be a boy. She seems to think this answer is a cop-out, but what else can I say? It's the truth! Then she wanted to know if I knew how to get to his house... I said whose house? And she rolls her eyes and says "God's house, mommy!" Oh, boy... I said, "Well, God lives in Heaven." She replies "Well, then, do you know how to get to Heaven?" Such a loaded question! I told her that there are no roads that we can drive on to get to Heaven; it is a place that we get to go to when we die. I only hope I haven't confused the mess out of her - this is HARD! Anyways, she wanted a girl, and she's not getting that. And if it's a boy, she wants to name him (get this) Dylan. Not Jay. She does not like the name Jay. Period. I told her she would grow to like it over time, and she tells me "No, mommy, I don't like it all of the days." As if that settles that. Aaaah, there is work to do on the homefront...
Yesterday was Tommy's birthday, and it was nice. I got him a card from me, and one from the kids, complete with their hand-stamps. It was cute. His kids also called, and that was really good that they remembered their daddy's birthday. We went to Red Lobster for dinner, which was incredibly yummy - shrimp!!!
Baby Jay is kicking more and more. I feel it often throughout the day now, and I just love it! I am only sorry that Tommy can't feel it yet - he is so anxious, and puts his hands on my belly every night. The kicks just aren't quite strong enough yet. The rest of my pregnancy is going really well. Boy, do I have my appetite back! I could eat 10 meals a day here lately - big meals. And my evening sickness is pretty well gone too. I'm just plain tired in the evenings, but I think that's to be expected. All in all, things are going really well. At the last ultrasound, the sonographer told me that my placenta was still "pretty low" and had some traveling to do. She said it was low enough to warrant another ultrasound and that she wanted to get a better look at the kidney, or renals, next time too, as the baby was pretty small this last time around. She also said that right now I have a footling breech. I really think that one was just something to fill in the blanks, though, because fetal presentation at this stage is pretty much a by-the-minute thing. (Right?) But, the good news (other than more water drinking!) is that I have another ultrasound scheduled for October 1st! Yay! I love seeing 2nd trimester ultrasounds, because they are growing SO fast at this point.
It's been good to see so many +++'s on the Precon boards - I hope there are many more - my thoughts are with all of you!
Hope it's been a good week for everyone, and I'll talk to you soon!
Cara
