21 weeks
I have passed the halfway point! Downhill from here! Well, technically. Although the first trimester woes are far behind, the third trimester is steadily creeping up on me, and will bring with it its own realm of difficulties. I find the extra weight of my belly very difficult to carry in later pregnancy. I remember just aching and hurting and being plain miserable after I passed 32 weeks or so. But, for now, it's going really well! Jay is steadily making himself known by kicking, and it's still fun at this point. Every once in a while he nails a kidney or my bladder or hits a nerve. But mostly, I just am feeling progressively stronger kicks and am still loving it! My next OB appt is next Wednesday (the 1st), when I will also have another ultrasound! We are going to take Liah along this time. I think she will get a real kick out of seeing her baby brother on the screen. She is warming up to the idea that she is having another brother, and she now tells me that it is okay with her if we want to call him Baby Jay. Good thing.
We have had some terrible sickness go around our day care center the past few weeks. Weekend before last, I had a horrible horrible stomach virus. So not fun. My best friend drove an hour and a half (one way!) down here to pick up my kids and take them back home with her for the weekend so I could be sick in peace. Tommy had no choice but to work and I could find no one else at 6 a.m. on a Saturday morning to help me with them. Things like that are surely one of the hardest parts of motherhood - you ALWAYS have to be mommy. Anyway, they had a blast with their Miss Laura. As a funny aside, Liah calls her Miss Laura, and her husband Miss Chris, lol. I think it's kinda cute. Chris doesn't necessarily agree. Once again, though, I'm getting off track. Chris and Laura have a 5 yr. old and 2 yr. old of their own, so adding mine to the mix, they had quite a time, I am sure. They camped out in the backyard and had a marshmallow roast and everything. And then the next afternoon when I was feeling a little more human, she drove them all the way back here to bring them home. What an incredible friend. We met when my ex-husband and I were at our first duty station in St. Mary's, GA. He and Chris were in the same platoon there. Laura and I shared our first pregnancies, just a few months apart. She babysat Liah for the first nine months of her life. Then they were transferred to Parris Island, SC and lo and behold, we were given orders to follow only a few months later. This time, Laura was working, and I kept her daughter Courtney. They left the Marine Corps and moved home to Tennessee. We left the Marine Corps and moved home to GA. Then I later divorce and remarry and move to TN also. And so we are close together again! All I can say is everyone should have a Miss Laura in their lives. I don't know what I'd do without her.
See how easily I'm diverted? Anyway, the stomach virus that I had ran a rampage through the daycare - almost EVERYONE caught it. We ended up closing the center for two days and going on a cleaning and sanitizing binge. It has helped dramatically, but there are still the occasional ones this week who were ill. And now I have this nasty cold that everyone seems to be passing around. We have a couple of adults who have wound up with pneumonia, but thankfully no children.
We have also been waiting (on pins and needles, I might add) on a potential transfer for Tommy. The company that he works for has an opening at the store in middle GA where he worked before we were transferred here. The middle GA area is "home" for us, and we are hopeful but trying not to be all at the same time. We would be only miles from my parents and his kids, and half the distance from his parents. We have been on the fence waiting for word for more than two weeks now, and the more time that goes by, the more difficult it is to be patient and not be crushed if we don't get good news. The job potential is excellent for me there also. I have a good chance of being able to go back doing what I loved so much. Oh, and GA has free pre-k. With a now 4 yr. old, and a 2 yr. old, and a newborn, this is a huge benefit for us. Wish us luck. I'm not a good waiter, so the suspense is hard for me! (Can you say "impatient"? I knew you could...)
Hope everyone is doing well!
Cara
