Let me just say that my work has me soooo teed off that I will NEVER be back. Enrollment at the day care I work at has dropped nearly 50% - from 68 children six months ago to only 36 enrolled now. There were 12 teachers there when I began in March, several of whom had been there for a couple of years. As of now, only 3 of those remain. And one of them happens to be B, the girl who called my doctor impersonating me! The directors of the place have simply let everything go to hell in a handbasket, and I have pulled my kids and will ot work there any longer. They allow children to come and stay there while they are sick, they treat their employees shoddily, we haven't gotten the p.o.s. raise they were promising us three months ago, and they are no help to us; we often have to grin and bear it being over ratio or limiting our lunch periods because they are unable to employ and keep steady teachers, and they are too lazy to get off their butts and give us a hand when we need it. The straw that broke the camel's back came this week, though. We had a little boy who was sick last weekend with hand, foot and mouth disease. His mother called Monday morning to tell the directors what he had been diagnosed with, and that his doctor had said he could return on Tuesday, which he did. The directors said they would send home a parent letter to alert us that the virus was going around, but they did NOTHING. I worked in his room on Tuesday and on Wednesday morning. Wednesday afternoon I did not work (I'm subbing now), but still allowed Liah to stay at "school" (she absolutely loves it there). When I picked her up that afternoon, all eight children from the little boy's class had been sent home with this virus. It causes painful canker-like sores or blisters on the hands, feet, and diaper area, and in the mouth, throat, and around the lips. However, it can also be harmful during pregnancy and these people said NOTHING to me other than telling me how badly they needed me to work in this particular room because they are so short-staffed. Wednesday night, I noticed a blister under my tongue and two more on the corner of my mouth. So, I called my OB office and was told that I needed to come in Thursday to do blood work just to make sure that all was okay. Great. I have no child care options and now need to go to the OB unplanned and take my 2 yr. old and 4 yr. old while I have blood drawn. I am so ticked at their negligence and their indifference to my health, not to mention the health of all of the other children in the day care center. Had they told me this virus was going around, I would not have been there, nor would I have taken Liah and Dylan. *sigh* So, I have pulled my kids from the day care and have decided that once I am over being really angry and can compose myself, I will call the state in the next couple of days. They need to know how things are being run. This was just pure negligence. Okay, okay! There's my rant for the week; I'll stop now...
By the way, the Dr. said that all is fine. They went ahead and did my monthly OB appt. as it had been just over three weeks since I'd been there last anyway. I've gained only 6 lbs. overall, BP was 112/69, fundal height was right on target, and once again, God has blessed me with a healthy baby. I go back on 11/18.
Tommy went to Birmingham this past week to meet with the VP of the company for his annual review. All went well, and they are very pleased with him in his first year as a store manager with this company. I am really very proud of him. He works hard and puts in long hours and makes good money to support us so that I don't have to. He is a wonderful husband, a superb father, and also manages to be my best friend all at the same time. How he manages to do it is beyond me, but I sure am thankful to have found him and appreciate all that he is. What a wonderful daddy he will be for the sixth time around!
Tommy has a week's vacation starting this coming Monday, and I couldn't be more excited! We are going home for a whole week! As a gift, my mom and dad gave us season tickets to Broadway Series plays and musicals at the Grand Opera House in Macon. (They also have tickets). There are six shows each year, and we hire a sitter, go with my parents, and have a date night - a nice adult night out. It is always so enjoyable. This year's lineup is going to be spectacular - we will be seeing Saturday Night Fever, Fame, Titanic, Grease, The Sound of Music, and Cats. Grease was actually on last year's lineup, and was the one I wanted most to see, but the production was cancelled. It is returning this year, but is scheduled to run the week the baby is due; there is a good chance I will be unable to see it again. Guess that's the way it goes, huh? Anyway, Monday night opens the series with Saturday Night Fever, and I am really looking forward to it! We will also have trick-or-treating to look forward to with the kids, and then my mom and dad are going to keep them for a bit while we spend a couple of child-free days in bliss at Tommy's parent's house. Aaah, full nights of sleep, good southern eating, and being spoiled by the in-laws (I absolutely LOVE his parents) sounds like bliss to me. What more could a girl ask for?
I met up with a friend yesterday afternoon and took Liah and Dylan to the Tennessee Aquarium. We bought an annual membership as soon as we moved here, and the kids have loved each and every visit. They currently have a seahorse display, which you first see. Well, keep in mind that Dylan has an obsession with horses. So he got a real kick out of the "horhees" in the water. As we went through the rest of the levels, though, I could not convince him that all of the fish that he saw were "fishies", not "horhees". Cute. There was a senior group going through the aquarium at about the same pace we were, and they got a real kick out of him. Oh, except for the turtles... I am apparently mistaken in their identity and they are really called "ribbits". He's a trip.
Guess that's about it for this entry - we will be back from vacation on Monday, November 3rd, and I should have plenty to pictures to show off, as well as a good update at that time. Hope everyone has a great week, and talk to you all soon!
Cara
