17 weeks, 23 to go!!
I was awfully tired this last week, and then I found out why when the nurse from my doctor’s office called me with my blood test results from Monday. They said that my AFP test came back normal, but my iron level is fairly low, making me anemic. The nurse asked if I had been feeling tired lately and I told her that tired was an understatement and absolutely EXHAUSTED is more like it. So they prescribed me some iron supplements and told me to take them at a different time than I take my prenatals. I made the mistake on Wednesday of taking them on an empty stomach and ended up kneeling in front of the toilet an hour later. For some reason, anytime I take anything -- whether it is vitamins or medicine -- without drinking at least three glasses or eating, I usually end up vomiting. You think I would have learned my lesson by now.
I go for my second checkup next Tuesday (3/21). I love going to the doctor’ s office because I get to hear the heartbeat every time. The sound of our little one is so reassuring and calming. I know that my doctor will get on to me about my weight, but oh well, I’ll try harder next week. At my last visit he told me to cut back on my sodium and carbohydrates, but he doesn’t understand that I have this intense craving for salty foods most of the time. My favorite is cheese tator tots! I kind of wish that I had gotten morning sickness in my first few months so I could have lost weight, but instead I was steadily eating normal. So far, anything I crave I will usually end up eating. I have, though, been good about eating more steamed and raw veggies. I think that if I can limit my weight gain to 15 or 20 more pounds throughout the rest of my pregnancy I will be OK. The other thing that I look forward to at this next appointment is getting to schedule a date for the ultrasound. My doctor told me at the last visit that it will probably be about a week or two after this check-up. This means that hopefully we will know the sex of our baby by the first week of April. As soon as we find out I’m heading right for Babies “R” Us for the real fun!
I have officially passed over from the “normal” to “maternity” clothes. Luckily, my sister-in-law, Mindi, had a baby last year and I received all her hand-me-downs. The only piece of clothing that I have had to spend my money on is bigger undergarments!
I will be spending this weekend cleaning out the spare room to make it the nursery. We have decided not to paint the room and just do wall hangings instead. That will save us the effort of another chore down the road. We will also be painting our new deck this weekend, but due to my condition my husband will be doing most the work. Got to run now, I have a very busy day to attend to. See you all next week.
Thinking of all of you,
Chevie and bebe
